Overview:
Fire is an important ecological process for most ecosystems in southern California. Changes in the incidence of fire over time (i.e., frequency, seasonality) pose risks to the health of native vegetation communities and wildlife populations. The current condition of significant concern with no change for the Central Study Area is based on the multiple, relatively large fires that have occurred over the last several decades. For the Coastal Study Area, the current condition is caution with an improving trend due to the absence of recent large fires.
