Cactus Salvaage at Portola Center

While there is no development within the boundaries of the Nature Reserve of Orange County, land development continues beyond.  Working in collaboration with the landowner at Portola Center (in the City of Lake Forest) and the Wildlife Agencies, the Natural Communities Coalition funded the salvage of more than 100 mature patches of prickly pear cactus for future cactus scrub habitat restoration efforts at OC Park’s Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park and other important sites within the Nature Reserve of Orange County.  Improving habitat quality supports Coastal cactus wrens and other target species protected by the NCCP/HCP.
